The Sony Xperia 4 could be a disappointing successor to the Xperia Compact flagships

Sony is set to launch a new Xperia device, the Xperia 4, in the coming months. The Xperia 4 is said to be a replacement for the Xperia Compact flagship line, but it’s looking more and more like a poor one.

In the past week, initial details about Sony Xperia 4 had been released. As we are not sure, but it is seen more likely that the device is in its final stages and going to launch soon.  The Xperia 4 will be the company’s compact phone, and a bundle of pictures comparing it to the older compact Xperia flagships has emerged.

By looking at the images, the Xperia 4 is seen as the same width as of older compact Sony flagships like the Z5 Compact and XZ2 Compact i.e. 65mm. This has been made possible by the company’s new 21:9 aspect ratio. The aspect ratio has been moved from the 16:9 to 18:9 in 2018 allowed OEMs to have larger displays while making the width possible, along with Sony’s CinemaWide 21:9 display takes the deal.

The device XZ1 Compact had a 4.6 inch 16:9 display, the XZ2 Compact had a 5.0 inch 18:9 display, meanwhile, the Xperia 4 now have a 5.7 inch 21:9 display. It is expected that the aspect ratio and reduced side bezels will be having the same 65mm width as same as its precursors.

There’s one disadvantage of having a longer display, which could be uncomfortable for the user and makes him reconsider the whole compact thing. It is expected that the Xperia 4 will have 149mm length. To some extent, it is shorter than the Xperia XZ2 which is 153mm, and also it is taller than the Xperia XZ1 which is 148mm.

It is also an expectation that the Xperia 4 will be powered by Snapdragon 710 rather than a true flagship SoC like the Snapdragon 855. This may be the replacement for the Xperia Compact series, but it is not a very good one.
